completes the preliminary work of florapod, and together makes a set.
much more color work on this one:
torch-heated cane to draw on clear bubble, reduction flame to manipulate cane color,
scooped-on splotches of black powder, thick (multi-coat) layer of opaque red powder,
another thick (multi-coat) layer of opaque black powder, more torch-cane application of
another color, clear gather, and finally an overlay of gaffer salmon bar stock, then
quenched and blown to create a crackle pattern in the overlay, and from there formed like
florapod but a bit better...
one of my best blown pieces yet, and i really like all the subtle variations in color, particularly
on the inside.
i intended for this to have an almost grotesque fleshy animal type feel to it, and i'm pretty
happy with the results, although i feel it could have better detail, and i'm not entirely happy
with the striking of the salmon.
made in 4th semester glassblowing.
Seriously though, this piece rocks. The colors are great - I really like the orange (salmon?) coloring and how you made it crackle with the black like that. The shape works well and appears organic in nature. A piece to definitely be proud of. Great job!
